airberlin transports more passengers in January

The revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) for January increased by 1.3 percent in yearly comparison to 2.904 billion (previous year: 2.867 billion).

In January 2014, airberlin welcomed more passengers on board than in the first month of the previous year. In total, the airline company transported 1,763,934 passengers in the past month.

By offering additional long-haul flights and connections flown throughout the year, airberlin increased the number of available seat kilometers by more than six percent in yearly comparison, i.e. to 3.667 billion (previous year: 3.449 billion). In this manner, the airline company is reducing the previously prevalent seasonal fluctuations between the winter and summer flight schedules, and providing more year-round connections, especially on touristic and on long-haul routes, so as to permanently establish this offer on the market in the long term. This enables airberlin to optimize its aircraft use throughout the entire year and to achieve a higher employee productivity. However, due to the traditionally weak demand in the month of January, this also leads to a decrease in capacity utilization.

The revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) for January increased by 1.3 percent in yearly comparison to 2.904 billion (previous year: 2.867 billion). At 79.2 percent, the flight capacity utilization for January was below the figure reached in the corresponding month of the previous year (83.1 percent), due to the productivity increase and the smoothing of seasonal fluctuations.
