Singapore welcomed 702,170 visitors in April 2005, registering a 7.5% growth over the same period in 2004.

This improvement resulted in an estimated S$858 million in tourism receipts in April 2005, a 17% increase over April 2004.



Indonesia (132,000), P R China (69,000), Malaysia (48,000), Australia (45,000) and India (44,000) were Singapore`s top five visitor-generating markets in April 2005. These markets accounted for 48% of the total visitor arrivals for the month.



The overall visitor growth in April 2005 (vs 2004) was driven by strong double-digit growth in arrivals from major markets, including India (+24%), Thailand (+21%), Taiwan (+21%), Malaysia (+14%) and the Philippines (+11%).



In April 2005, Singapore hotels recorded S$94 million in room revenue, an increase of 16.6% over April 2004.

The Average Room Rate (ARR) for the month was estimated at S$133, an increase of 10.6% over the previous year. The Average Occupancy Rate (AOR) for hotels was estimated to have reached 82% in April 2005, a 2 percentage point increase over April 2004.
