Budapest Airport honours outstanding aviation partners following record – breaking 9 million year

Some 300 guests from the airport’s carriers, operations partners, concessionaires and many other agencies and enterprises attended the evening.

Budapest Airport hosted its 8th Annual Awards Ceremony, recognising those airlines and other closely-held business partners which stood out in various domains during its record-breaking year. Having served more than nine million passengers, an all-time high in the airport’s history, the evening was a chance to honour and thank airlines, concessionaires, ground handlers, tour operators and other partners which worked together to continue the enhancement of Budapest’s aviation and retail development in 2014.

Some 300 guests from the airport’s carriers, operations partners, concessionaires and many other agencies and enterprises attended the evening. By also promoting the bud:sport theme throughout the evening, the airport underlined its prominent upholding of the sporting values of never giving up, team spirit, a “can-do” attitude and a continuous desire for development.

The winners say a few words:

  • Best Developing Airline – UP by El Al. Janos Varadi, General Manager for Hungary: “The historical links between the people of Israel and Hungary are deep and strong and it is therefore fitting that our important new air services have also been recognised with Budapest Airport’s Best Developing Airline. The relationship between UP by El Al and this airport is full of promise and opportunity and with this award it is clear that our dear friends in Budapest feel equally enthusiastic about the great future we are developing together.”
  • Best Performing AirlineWizz Air. Abran Gyorgy, Chief Commercial Officer: “Budapest is our home on many levels and we have considerable pride that 2014 was an all-time record traffic year for both Budapest Airport and Wizz Air–after all our fortunes are bound together. All of the employees of both enterprises are recognised with Budapest Airport’s award of Best Performing Airline–an incredible achievement we have delivered together.
  • Best Newcomer Airline, Low Cost CarrierPegasus Airlines. Burcu Alin, Sales Manager: “The award of Best Newcomer Airline– Low Cost Carrier is tremendously important recognition for our product because we work here in Budapest, and everywhere, in such an overwhelmingly competitive sector. Pegasus operates a point-to-point service, as wellas many connections, building and providing a bridge between the people of Hungary and Turkey–people who genuinely want to travel and do business in our respective countries while enjoying our great low fares and very reliable service.”
  • Highest Load Factor Growth, Low Cost CarrierRyanair. Chiara Ravara, Sales & Marketing Executive: “Budapest is a very competitive market so the fact that Ryanair has won the Budapest Airport award for Highest Load Factor Growth (Low Cost Carrier Sector) tells us that people love the new family and business orientation of the services offered by the Ryanair – Budapest Airport base and that this is proof that they are showing their approval by taking our superb value, on-time flights from this great city in ever-greater numbers.”

Summing up the experiences of 2014 and speaking at the ceremony, Jost Lammers, CEO, Budapest Airport said: “Tonight is a great chance for us to say a personal thank you to all our aviation partners and recognise those achievers who have contributed to the fantastic airport performance in 2014. It is also poetic that the awards are held in the Terminal 1 Event Center which still holds so much history for Hungarian aviation.”
