Tourism in the Dominican Republic<.>, which fuels the Caribbean nation`s economy, has not fully recovered from the 11 September attacks on the USA. Last year, tourism poured more than US$2 billion into the country`s coffers, central bank figures showed. But in recent months, the number of visitors to the Dominican Republic has dropped about 20 per cent.

The tourism slump, largely due to the terrorist attacks, has been aggravated by current economic and political problems in Argentina and Venezuela, Subervi Bonilla told reporters. The tourism outlook for the coming months is better, but not as good as the country would like – or needs. The government, meanwhile, is reportedly starting an international marketing campaign.
