easyJet starts daily flights from Moscow Domodedovo Airport

Airline easyJet has launched regular daily flights from Moscow Domodedovo Airport to London (Gatwick).

At the joint press-conference the management of easyJet and the representatives of Domodedovo told journalists about the start of flight program Moscow-London and the unique route Moscow-Manchester.

The previous night – March, 18 – easyJet’s chief executive, Carolyn McCall and easyJet’s UK  CEO, Paul Simons arrived to Domodedovo by the first flight London-Moscow-London (U28401/U28402) accompanied by British representative mass media and business delegation.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport’s Director external and international relations, Daniel Burkard noticed: “We are glad that exactly Domodedovo became the first Russian airport, launching low-cost flights to UK. Domodedovo is popular among Russian and foreign tourists, which is confirmed by the highest passenger traffic rate among airports in Russia. A wider choice of flights and range of costs is a great piece of news for air travelers”.

On April, 15 easyJet launches the second daily flight to London from Domodedovo. And till the end of March the route Manchester-Moscow-Manchester will be launched – this destination will become the unique one for Moscow air hub and the first ever direct flight between these two cities.

Carolyn McCall noticed: “Launch of flights London-Moscow is a landmark in easyJets’ development. I am glad that we make the travel between two capitals easier and more available. Russia is the world’s largest country with a growing economy. Providing regular low-cost flights, easyJet contributes to development of business and cultural relations between two states”.

Before partnership between Domodedovo and easyJet started, the airport’s share was two thirds (68%) of the Moscow air hub total passenger traffic en-route Moscow-London.

In 2012 Domodedovo served on this route 530 thousand passengers. After easyJet’s arrival these figures will increase significantly.

With easyJet flights launch the number of flights Moscow-London from Moscow Domodedovo Airport will increase up to 5 per day.

easyJet airline —  operates regular services on over 600 routes between over 130 airports across 30 countries. It has the largest route network in Europe and leads in terms of regular services on 100 most popular European routes and in 50 largest European airports.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport — is the largest one of Russia, in 2012 the airport served 28,2 million people. It joins the category of the largest airports in Europe on the classification of the Airports Council International (ACI) and on results of 2012 became one of three European airports with the highest dynamic development. Domodedovo is chosen for flights by member airlines of two largest global airline alliances — Star Alliance and oneworld.
