A very successful World Travel Market for Italy

This 25th edition of the World Travel has seen a higher and highly qualified Italian presence too: 20 regions and 54 personalised booths gathered under the “umbrella” of the Italian stand, which with its 1539 sqm is the largest of the exhibition.

The heart of the Italian stand, Piazza Italia, acted as a meeting place for demand and offer and for the press conferences, like the one of the Apulia Region, crowded to bursting point by tour operators and journalists alike.

The “open days” at the stands of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Abruzzo and the evenings organised by the Calabria and Piedmont Regions were extremely successful but perhaps the highlights of the Italian calendar of events for the week were the press conference of Lazio at the trendy Sanderson Hotel and the conference and concert of Campania at the prestigious British Museum.

The proverbial icing on the cake for Italy came at The Sunday Times Travel Magazine Awards, where Italy was voted “Best European Country” by the readers of the popular magazine, whilst Rome came 3rd as “Best European City” and the Cipriani Hotel in Venice was 2nd in the category “Best European Hotel”.

The Editor of the beautiful magazine now in its second year, Jane Knight, together with famous journalist and broadcaster Jennie Bond, presented the award to Marco Montini, Director of the Italian State Tourist Board in London, at a ceremony that took place on Wednesday 10th at ExCel.
