The Cellars in the Sky Awards is an annual poll put together by Business Traveller magazine. This year it will be judged by a team of experts at Wine International Magazine, organisers of the International Wine Challenge, described by Jancis Robinson as the Wine Oscars. The 2004 Cellars in the Sky competition is bigger than ever before with 29 of the world’s leading airlines entering over 170 of their best, first and business class wines.

The awards will be presented by multi-Michelin-starred celebrity chef John-Christophe Novelli at World Travel Market on Tuesday November 9 at 1.00pm. After the awards, visitors to the exhibition will be able to taste some of the winning wines.

Julian Gregory, Managing Director of Business Traveller magazine, said:

“Bringing the 2004 Cellars in the Sky Awards to World Travel Market will add excitement and glamour to the presentation of the winners.

“The purpose of the awards is to let business travellers know about the great wines that are widely available on long-haul flights. There will be ten categories, but to ensure that the awards are as fair as possible, we have introduced a ‘wild card’ entry which allows each airline to enter any wine they are particularly proud of.”

Fiona Jeffery, Group Exhibition Director at World Travel Market said that the awards would prove a major attraction for visitors.

“Wine drinking has never been more popular,” she said. ”It is enjoyed by every country throughout the world and is even said to give you a longer life. We are hoping to make the presentation even more fun, interesting and entertaining by allowing visitors to taste the winning wines.

“The awards will provide a fitting end to the second day of a two-day Airline Business Conference, organised by Airline Business, returning to World Travel Market for the second time. The conference will focus on key issues facing the airline business.”
