British no-frills carrier easyJet<.> would not want Greece`s ailing state carrier Olympic Airways<.>, even as a gift.

EasyJet`s press office has rejected recent Greek reports stating its chairman Stelios Hadji-ioannou has voiced interest in acquiring OA.

In an e-mail sent to TDN, easyJet states that neither easyGroup company nor Hadji-ioannou have shown even the slightest interest in the purchase of OA nor cooperation or other involvement with the carrier. Indeed, in every press conference Hadji-ioannou has given before Greek and other media, he has stated I wouldn`t even take Olympic for free!, the e-mail stated.

EasyJet is proceeding with its expansion programme and has signed an order for 32 new Boeing 737-700 aircraft. They are due to be delivered between 2000 and 2004, adding to their existing fleet of 18 Boeing 737 aircraft. The company operates 28 routes in seven European countries and transports around 6.5 million passengers a year.
