Right on time for the transition from summer to winter time, on 31st October, Lufthansa`s winter timetable will come into force. An attractive new destination will be Hyderabad in India and for passengers the travelling time on important routes will be shorter: Bangkok will now also be on the schedule daily from Munich and the Frankfurt-Cape Town route will be served non-stop. From Dusseldorf there will be four flights a week to Moscow.
Fifth Lufthansa destination in growth market India: Hyderabad as of 17th February 2005
Subject to official permission, as of 17th February 2005, Lufthansa passengers will be able to fly non-stop from Frankfurt to Hyderabad in Southern India three times a week. Hyderabad is the capital of the federal state of Andhra Pradesh and is economically characterized by the IT and Biotech sectors. With the fifth destination in India, Lufthansa is further extending its market leadership among the European Airlines in this growth market. Flying times will be adapted to the flight schedule so that travellers to and from Hyderabad will have even better connections with Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners, particularly to the most important North American destinations.
Hub system used even more effectively – Bangkok flights also from Munich
With the introduction of the Lufthansa winter timetable, passengers can make even better use of the dual hub system in Frankfurt and Munich when planning their journey and also fly from Munich daily non-stop to the Asian metropolis Bangkok. The flights to Bangkok previously starting from Frankfurt with onward flight to Saigon (three times a week) and to Bangkok with onward flight to Kuala Lumpur (four times a week) will be shifted to the southern hub of Munich. Travellers from Frankfurt will continue to have excellent connections with Bangkok: as in the past there will also be daily flights from Frankfurt to Bangkok and on to Manila on the winter timetable. With the distribution of the flights to the popular Thai metropolis between the two hubs and a co-ordinated flight schedule, Lufthansa passengers can now easily fly from Munich and Frankfurt to Saigon, Kuala Lumpur and Manila with only one stop.
Faster and more comfortably to the Cape: Frankfurt – Cape Town non-stop
Lufthansa`s connections to South Africa are also being optimized: from Frankfurt there will be a daily non-stop flight to Johannesburg, as well as a daily non-stop flight to Cape Town. Previously Cape Town was served from Frankfurt with a stopover in Johannesburg, thanks to the new connection flying time for passengers will be shortened by two hours and ten minutes. In return, the service from Munich to Johannesburg will be removed from the flight schedule.
Seasonal adjustments during the winter season
In accordance with the season, this winter Lufthansa will again strengthen its flights to some sunny destinations and reduce the offer to less popular regions. During the cold months three weekly flights will be added between Munich and Miami. Instead of with the previous three weekly flights from Munich to Dubai, the Emirate will even be served with daily flights from the Southern hub in winter. The routes from Munich to Boston, Montreal and Vancouver will be removed from the timetable in winter – during this period, passengers have good connections via Frankfurt or with partner airlines. The flights from Munich to Los Angeles and San Francisco as well as from Frankfurt to Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Portland and Washington, will be seasonally reduced.
New routes and better connections in European traffic: Dusseldorf-Moscow
With the winter timetable, travelling times are also shortened for passengers flying within Europe from decentral airports: already on 13th September four weekly flights were introduced from Dusseldorf to Moscow. The daily connection from Dusseldorf to Rome from summer will continue to operate in winter. The existing offers of flights from Dusseldorf will be increased on the routes to Paris (by six weekly flights), to Prague (by six weekly flights) as well as to Stockholm (by five weekly flights). Passengers from Stuttgart can look forward to daily flights to Madrid in winter, these are also continued from the summer. Between Stuttgart and Milan five additional weekly flights will be offered.
On the winter timetable, altogether Lufthansa passengers have the choice of 6,263 weekly flights to and from 176 destinations in 74 countries worldwide. Together with code-share partners there are even as many as 11,420 flights to and from 355 destinations in 91 countries under Lufthansa flight numbers on the timetable. According to the current planning status, in comparison with the previous year there will be a moderate increase in the seat kilometres offered (SKO) of about four percent in the continental traffic and of more than six percent in the intercontinental traffic.
