Ms Monika Lamperth, minister of local governments and regional development in Hungary, relieved Mr. Gabor Galla, the new CEO of the Hungarian National Tourist Office, with effect from 16 November. Mr Galla directed the HNTO for 4 years, while all his predecessors was in charge of the national tourism marketing for an average 1 and half years.

The new CEO is Mr. Ivan Rona, former Warsaw representative of the HNTO and more recently international representative of Hunguest Hotels.

Mr. Rona’s first task will be structural reorganisation, with the aim to allocate more funds for marketing activities by reducing operational costs. The Office’s budget for 2007 remains at this year’s level – HUF 4.6 billion, €18 million – of which HUF 1.6 billion was spent on operations. The company is facing staff cuts of 25%; foreign representatives and regional marketing directorates are expected to be least affected by redundancies.
