Greece`s Mamidakis<.> group plans to open a new conference centre in the central Athens district of Votanikos by the end of November 2000. The building, named Athinais<.>, formerly housed a historically significant factory and underwent extensive renovation works costing 4.5 billion drachmas.

Mamidakis executive director Mariellena Mamidaki-Kokkinea viewed the centre as one of her personal initiatives and aims to boost the company`s longstanding position in the tourism industry.

Located on a 6,000 sq m property, the Athinais is able to host business receptions, conferences, exhibitions and cultural events. IT has two autonomous conference rooms, with seating for 800 and 450 respectively, which are equipped with the latest technology. It has two additional rooms which in the early part of the day will operate as auditoria. A third conference room allows for further expansion.

Athinais also has a 450 sq m courtyard which can be used for outdoor events and features cinema houses, restaurants and other recreational areas. A special highlight for visitors to the complex is Greece`s first museum of ancient Cypriot art.
