Minister for Tourism and Culture Dr Francis Zammit Dimech today launched a Malta Tourism Authority training directory aimed at promoting continuing professional development (CPD) within the tourism industry.

The directory lists a series of CPD training seminars and workshops which are of particular relevance to people working in tourism-related organisations including managers, sales and marketing staff, front-liners as well as food and beverage personnel.

The Authority produced the training directory in conjunction with fourteen local and foreign training partners.

Through this public-private partnership, a series of short intensive training programmes are being organised in the areas of leadership and management, communication skills and customer care, language training, health and safety, as well as product knowledge, among others.

Over 170 programmes, which were designed on the basis of MTA research and guidelines, will be organised by the Authority in 2005.

The development of the skills of those who work in tourism is critical in order to build a culture of continuous change and improvement in terms of product and service delivery, MTA Chairman Mr Chris Grech, explained.

According to Mr Joe Tanti, MTA Training and Development Manager at the Authority, fostering a corporate culture which advocates and actively encourages employees to embark on continuous training and updating of their knowledge of the industry is one of the most effective ways of obtaining a competitive advantage and ensuring the future success of an organisation operating in a raplidly-changing service industry.
