The Pafos Treasure Hunt is a joint project of Avantless and Cocoon Creations, key specialists in designing software for smartphones.
Visitors in Pafos get the chance to visit 14 spots including archaeological sites, museums, creative workshops and experience Cypriot traditional crafts using their iPhone.
Included in the app are places such as Avgoustinos Pottery and the Aphrodite Delights factory in Geroskipou, Lemba Pottery in Lemba and a refreshment stop at the Pinguino Café in Kato Pafos.
Pafos Treasure Hunt is an innovative application not only in the Cypriot market, but internationally. It is the first application of its kind, worldwide, which transforms dull city guides into a fun and engaging game.
All points on the app are accessible by public transport and the application facilitates the bus route information for each point. The app is available in English, Greek, and Russian. Another big bonus boost for towns and cities, is the application allows treasure hunters to share their progress with friends and family via social networking sites – Facebook and Twitter, by sharing their ‘hunt’ in this way the town and its ‘treasures’ are promoted to new potential visitors.
Users get the chance to win gifts on the spot and can also win a 3-night stay in a hotel in Pafos.
Other European destinations have also expressed interest in the Treasure Hunt app as part of their direct promotion of towns; they also see the clear benefits of being able to offer visitors a unique travel experience.
