A plush new departure lounge at Athens western airport awaits passengers booked on
The creation of the facility was deemed necessary after Greece`s official entry to the group of European countries which have signed the Schengen Treaty considering that departure lounges for passengers flying to non-Schengen destinations are now located on the first floor of the airport.
The new lounge has a smokers` section and comfortable lounge chairs as well as other facilities. Of particular interest is an area devoted to OA`s founder, the late shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, that features his desk and a photo of him and his son Alexander. The old shall mix with the new as historical information on the company and a computer offering Internet access will soon be installed.
Travellers heading to Schengen countries utilise the airport`s existing departure lounges on the ground level while those going to non-Schengen states now await their flights in lounges on the first floor. Individuals travelling between Schengen countries do not require a passport.
Additionally, OA recently released its new in-flight magazine, which has a new look, is easy to read and colourful. As for in-flight entertainment, various box-office hits are being screened on OA flights while travellers from around the world have the opportunity to view documentaries on Greece.
