New route to Stavanger in Norway from Glasgow Airport by Eastern Airways

A new route to Stavanger in Norway from Glasgow Airport has been launched on 12 September by Eastern Airways. The UK’s second largest regional airline, which has introduced the only direct service from central Scotland to south west Norway, already flies to Stavanger from Aberdeen and Newcastle. Eastern Airways has been providing air services to support the North Sea offshore industry for over 13 years with a comprehensive network of services to its Scottish base in Aberdeen from key regions.

A large number of major energy companies have bases in Stavanger as Norway is the third largest exporter of oil in the world.

The airline’s first international services from Glasgow to Stavanger will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Fares start from £99 one way, including taxes and charges.

Monday and Wednesday flights leave Stavanger at 9.20am and arrive in Glasgow at 9.50am local time.  Services on Mondays and Wednesdays depart Glasgow at 10.20am and arrive in Stavanger at 1.20pm local time.

On Fridays, flights will depart Stavanger at 10am and arrive in Glasgow at 10.30am local time. Friday services take off from Glasgow at 11am and land in Stavanger at 1.30pm local time.

Kay Ryan, Eastern Airways’ commercial director, said: “This new Glasgow service is great news for offshore workers who live in central Scotland as it is the most convenient way for them to reach Norway’s oil capital.  Norwegian companies and contractors with connections in Glasgow and the region will also save valuable using this service, while tourists can take advantage of city breaks or short breaks to the breathtaking countryside and scenery that both areas offer.”

Francois Bourienne, commercial director at Glasgow Airport, said: "We are continually working with our airline partners to expand our route network and the introduction by Eastern Airways of the direct service to Stavanger is tremendous news for the airport and the city of Glasgow. The route will undoubtedly prove popular with both the business and leisure markets and I’d like to wish Eastern Airways every success at Glasgow Airport."

Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council and chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB), said: "The new Stavanger service adds yet another valuable route to our network of flights around the world and is a boost for both business and the short break tourist market. Even in these tough times Glasgow is constantly improving its air links and we will continue to work hard to build on this latest success."

Like Glasgow, Stavanger is a former European Capital of Culture and has breathtaking fjords and mountains in the region to suit visiting tourists.

A dedicated fast track security channel is offered at Glasgow Airport for all Eastern Airways passengers to avoid any queues at security search, which also enables the airline to close check-in just 30 minutes before the departure time. Passengers with fully flexible tickets will gain access to the airport’s executive Sky Lounge.

The regional airline is consistently rated one of the UK’s most punctual scheduled airlines and has a fleet of 30 aircraft flying from 21 airports in the UK, Ireland, Norway and France.

Passengers flying with Eastern Airways are not charged for check-in, baggage, choice of seat or onboard drinks and snacks.
