The first regularly scheduled trips with the catamaran San Pawl, which can take 320 passengers, including 35 in a VIP salon, has been established between Piran, Slovenia`s most beautiful seaside city, and Venice. In this way, Slovenia`s tourist agencies hope to bring the Slovene coast and Slovene Istria closer to Italian guests, as well as to other visitors who travel via the Venice airport.

The new line augments the existing route between Izola and Venice, which has been connected by Kompas`s catamaran Prince of Venice for quite some time and will help attract more foreign guests to the increasingly attractive Slovene coast. Due to its Mediterranean seaside climate, Slovenia`s coast is very suitable for relaxation and giving the body and soul a treat at the Strunjan climatic health resort; and following the renovation of its thermal baths, the Terme Palace in Portoroz has become a real magnet for guests seeking wellness therapy. Recently, Portoroz`s Morje Hotels firm opened the door of the Wai Thai Temple of Wellness, the largest center for traditional Thai massage in Europe. Fun-seeking guests are also well looked after as they can enjoy various open-air cultural and social events in the evenings or try their luck at the Portoroz Casino in the Grand Hotel Metropol.

A ticket for the catamaran San Pawl can be purchased at all tourist agencies on the coast. It includes 12 hours of free public transport around Venice as well as discounts in some restaurants and galleries.

Venice will be even more interesting in the summer and fall months during the jubilee 50th Venice Biennial, the oldest and most visited international Fine Arts event, which will run from June 15 to November 2. Slovene participation at the Biennial, whose central theme this year is Dreams and Conflicts-Dictatorship of the Viewer is extremely strong. On the small island of Campalto, Marko Peljhan`s science-art project Macrolab is presented, a kind of laboratory intended for the joint work of artists, scientists, and tactical media operators to enable research in three fields: telecommunications, climate systems, and migration. Francisco Bonami, president of this year`s Biennial, also invited students from the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts to Venice, where they created a joint project in which 12 European, one North American, and one South African institutions are participating. The internationally recognized group Irwin and artist Marjetica Potrc are appearing in Venice, while Slovenia appears along with the name of popular artist Damien Hirst, who in addition to exhibiting his work in Venice is participating at the 25th International Graphics Biennial in Ljubljana. In the Slovene pavilion of the A+A Gallery in Venice, the young artist Ziga Kariz is on display with his project Terror=decor:art now in which the artist, with the help of pictures and objects, spans the extensive spatial-conceptual system and deals with media manipulation of the visual.
