Star Alliance member airlines to offer customers etix on all routes by end of 2005

Passengers travelling on electronic tickets (etix) will benefit immediately from the closer cooperation between Lufthansa, bmi and LOT Polish Airlines

Passengers travelling on electronic tickets (etix) will benefit immediately from the closer cooperation between Lufthansa, bmi and LOT Polish Airlines. From now on, the etix service will also be available on flights to the worldwide destinations served by Lufthansa`s partner airlines bmi and LOT in addition to the destinations served directly by Lufthansa. Passengers will then be able to fly to a total of 370 cities throughout the world without a paper ticket.

The agreement with bmi and LOT is part of a global Star Alliance project that will soon offer customers the opportunity to travel on one electronic ticket within the Star Alliance network. Lufthansa currently offers etix for flights with Lufthansa, Air Canada, Austrian, Scandinavian Airlines and United, and there are plans to integrate other Star Alliance member airlines – Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, Spanair, Asiana, Thai Airways and VARIG – into the system by the end of the year. Paperless travel will then be possible to all the etix-enabled destinations in the route networks of the above-mentioned partner airlines.

Passengers travelling on an electronic ticket receive their boarding pass either at the check-in desk or at a check-in terminal. Electronic tickets can be purchased via reservation centres, at the airport counters of Lufthansa`s partner airlines, at travel agencies as well as over the Internet. Passengers can check in for Lufthansa flights by phone, online or via a WAP-enabled phone. Holders of frequent flyer cards of all Lufthansa`s partner airlines can use the mobile services, access the partner airline`s self-service ticket terminals (where available) and also book electronic tickets for award flights.
