Irelands`s ferry company Stena Line has launched a £350,000 marketing campaign aimed at boosting car traffic and tourism from Britain to Ireland.

The campaign which runs for one month includes TV, press and outdoor advertising in key areas of England, Wales and Scotland backed up by an extensive PR support programme across all targetted regions.

To encourage potential visitors to pack up their cars and make the short trip across the Irish Sea, Stena Line has announced a range of special summer fares starting at just £149 (€199*) for a five day return for a car and two adults with children costing just £1 extra each way.

Stena Line’s extensive route network means that it’s actually quicker for British residents to travel to Ireland than it is to drive to many parts of the UK with fast ferry crossings from Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire, Stranraer to Belfast and Fishguard to Rosslare taking just 99, 105 and 110 minutes respectively.

Wendy Hartley, Stena Line’s Head of Sales UK & Ireland, believes that Ireland has something to offer everyone.

“Ireland is famous worldwide for its beautiful landscapes, acres of green countryside and also for the hospitality of its people,” said Wendy. “It’s a must-visit destination for people living in Britain – especially now when it is so handy to hop in the car and enjoy a choice of Stena Line crossings from Holyhead to Dublin Port or Dun Laoghaire, Fishguard to Rosslare, Fleetwood to Larne and Stranraer to Belfast.

“Visitors who take their cars to Ireland generally stay for longer periods, spend more money and explore different parts of the country – not just the main cities. Therefore this campaign should be of benefit to the hospitality industry throughout Ireland – particularly those areas around our ports in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Rosslare, Belfast and Larne.

“Taking the car to Ireland really is quick, convenient and hassle free and we’re sure that our specially priced ferry deals will be a huge success with the British public,” she added.

Stena Line is the market leading ferry company between Britain and Ireland with the biggest fleet and choice of route. The company carries more than three million passengers between Ireland and Britain each year, more than its rival ferry operators combined.
