The PhD Workshop @ ENTER 2013

ENTER 2013 has invited doctoral students to participate in a PhD workshop to share and discuss their current research on topics related to IT in travel and tourism.

As a pre-conference event IFITT has organised a PhD workshop for doctoral students currently undertaking research related to information and communication technology in travel and tourism, which will take place on January 22, 2013. The workshop will provide a forum for PhD students to interactively discuss their research with peers, colleagues, leading supervisors and scholars in the field.

The workshop will provide the students with the opportunity to share and develop their research ideas in a critical but supportive environment, get feedback from mentors who are senior members within the IT and tourism research community, explore issues related to academic and research careers, and build relationships with other students, researchers and members of the community from around the world.

The workshop will be opened up with a welcome speech by the chairs Rob Law (Hong Kong Polytechnic University), Carlos Lamsfus (CICtourGUNE) and Barbara Neuhofer (Bournemouth University) as well as with a supportive message from IFITT president Dimitrios Buhalis. This will be followed by an introductory presentation by Johannes Werthner (Vienna University of Technology) about the ‘Emerging issues in ICT in travel and tourism’. After that the PhD students will have the honour to present their research proposals, which have been approved by members of the eTourism community in advance to the workshop. The research proposals will then be discussed in three different breakout sessions before they will be one more time reviewed by Rob Law and Matthias Fuchs. The final awards ceremony will take place at 17.00 o’clock with closing remarks from Rob Law and Matthias Fuchs. Following the completion of the PhD workshop, the students are then invited to join an informal get together with food and drinks at the restaurant ‘Stiftskeller’ in Innsbruck.

In order to participate in the workshop doctorate students were asked to send their research proposals by October 12, 2012. After receiving an initial feedback by the workshop judges, they will be able to submit their revised proposal by November 16, 2012 and can expect information about their acceptance at November 30, 2012.

ENTER 2013 takes place between the 22nd and 25th of January, 2013 in the Congress Convention Centre in Innsbruck, Austria. In order to encourage more participation ENTER 2013 has provided heavy discounts for students. The admission rates for students can be obtained from the registration page on the conference’s website . The participation in the PhD workshop at January 22 requires no extra costs for the participants.
