VisitBritain identified as one of the best uk marketing bodies

VisitBritain, the national authority on tourism, has been named as one of the country’s leading marketing organisations  in a survey by influential magazine “Marketing” this week.

VisitBritain came second in the publication’s national annual survey which evaluates organisation’s commitment to marketing and how well they integrate the discipline within their day-to-day work. The survey was based on the response of 1700 marketers from 330 organisations. Companies were given a high score if they were being led by senior managers with a background in marketing. VisitBritain received a 94.2 per cent rating on their commitment to marketing in the survey.

VisitBritain was also ranked as one of the best marketing bodies to work for, coming joint thirty-fifth in the survey. The survey evaluates how marketeers view their employer in terms of brand values, internal communication and working environment.

VisitBritain was launched following the merger of the British Tourist Authority and the English Tourism Council in 2003. They employ sixty people within its two marketing departments, which have the role of marketing Britain internationally and England domestically.

Tom Wright, chief executive of VisitBritain, commented:“We are delighted that the marketing community has recognised VisitBritain as one of the top marketing bodies in the country.

“As a body tasked with marketing Britain abroad and England domestically our core function is to market the destination as strongly as possible.

“British tourism has the potential to grow from a £76bn industry to £100bn a year industry by 2010. But in addition to competition from emerging destinations, existing competitors are increasingly becoming more sophisticated in their approach to marketing.

“It is therefore essential that our marketing is world class.”
