Free customer Wi-Fi and smartphone app introduced at Cliffs of Moher

The launch of the app is the result of a joint venture between the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience and Lahinch native, Matthew Kelly.

CLIFFS OF MOHER, Co. CLARE, IRELAND – Free customer Wi-Fi access has been introduced at the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience in County Clare to coincide with the launch of a smartphone app that guides tourists around the world-famous visitor attraction.

The Cliffs of Moher Audio Guide App provides visitors with a 12-stop audio guide tour onsite which can be downloaded free of charge for iPhone/iPad or Android devices. Free Wi-Fi has been installed throughout the site at the main viewing areas and in the concourse outside the visitor centre. Each of the 12 stops on the audio guide is marked onsite.

“The launch of this smartphone app and free customer Wi-Fi will further enhance the quality visitor experience at the Cliffs of Moher, which we anticipate will attract close to one million visitors for the 12-month period up to the end of 2013,” explained Cliffs Director Katherine Webster.

She continued: “The launch of the app coincides with the introduction of a new exhibition at O’Brien’s Tower featuring the builder of the landmark tower, 19th century landlord Cornelius O’Brien, as well as the wildlife and natural environment around the Cliffs. Shortly we will be opening a new Meditation Room which will provide visitors with a dedicated space onsite to escape from the hustle and bustle of the visitor experience for quiet contemplation, prayer or reflection.  Furthermore, we have recently revamped our website, www.cliffsofmoher.ie, which features an interactive guide to the visitor attraction and 360 degree panoramic views of the Cliffs and Visitor Centre.”

The launch of the app is the result of a joint venture between the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience and Lahinch native, Matthew Kelly. The mobile audio tour is voiced by Matthew’s brother, US-based Dr. Eamonn Kelly who was first assistant curator at O’Brien’s Tower it was opened to the public by Shannonside Tourism in the 1970s. Both Matthew and Eamonn also launched a book – “The Cliffs of Moher” – in 2009 featuring four booklets originally produced in the 1970s called “Birds of the Locality”, “History, Myth & Legend”, “A Guide to the Locality” and “Cornelius O’Brien M.P”.
