Twenty Four UAE nationals have been selected to compete for the hugely-popular Al Youla Championship at the Global Village during the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF-2006) starting from January 4, 2006.



The Fazza championship for the Al Youla dancers will be held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders. The championship also covers Shooting and Falconry competitions. The championship is being held for the fourth successive year and has remained a hugely popular event among the youngsters.



The selection of participants for the Al Youla championship involved three elimination rounds conducted over a period three days at the Heritage Village in Al Shindagha.



The selection process was overseen by a five-member panel of judges headed by Ahmed Al Wardi, Chairman of Fazza Championship Organizing Committee.



Mr. Al Wardi said championship will test the energy and agility of Al Youla dancers, the traditional UAE dance that celebrates victory. It will be held at the Global Village throughout the 32-day shopping festival. The selected youngsters hail from Dubai , Sharjah, Al Ain, Abu Dhabi and Umm Al Quwain and includes previous years’ competitors.



Al Youla commands huge popularity among the UAE youngsters. The dance is characteristically performed by the old tribes of the UAE to celebrate victory and it will captivate crowds with the movement and agility of participants.



The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has lined up a series of events for the DSF-2006 showcasing the emirate`s rich cultural past and traditions.
