Organisers Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) announced that work was on at a hectic pace to ready the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) – Mina Seyahi, that is scheduled to play host to the Dubai International Boat Show 2004 from tomorrow.

“We are glad to bring the Boat Show to the DIMC, which is an ideal venue to showcase the latest and best in the maritime world,” said DWTC Director General, Mubarak bin Fahad. “This year’s edition will display Middle East’s largest ever assemblage of boats, jet skis, inflatables, high-performance racers, leisure crafts, cruisers, yachts, powerboats, personal watercraft, marine equipment and accessories, furniture and fittings, sports fishing products and virtually everything to do with the marine industry,” Mr. bin Fahad added.

“With less than a week to go, preparations are well and truly underway at the DIMC as it gears up to stage the Boat Show and the in water VIP Boat Show,” said DIMC Managing Director, Saeed Hareb.

“This year’s event is expected to attract a very high turnout of affluent upmarket visitors from the UAE and the neighbouring Gulf countries to view the latest from the boating world and the several lifestyle features that have been incorporated by organisers DWTC at this year’s show,” Mr. Hareb added.

“The existing and new pontoons at the DIMC will play host to more than 50 boats including the spectacular Forty Love – a mega 42-metre yacht that stands out as the biggest boat on display. 90% of the Marina is ready to receive the boats and we hope to have many more coming in. It is but logical to have a boat show at a Marina and DIMC is proud to be the venue for this great event where we can showcase our local products and be host to international participants”, Mr Hareb said.

“The Boat Show will have something to offer everyone from an experienced maritime buff to a newcomer who is keen to try out a new and energizing experience and as venue managers, we have ensured that we put in place top class facilities for the exhibitors as well as visitors to the event,” Mr. Hareb remarked. “This is the first time that a boatshow will have boats on display in four categories; indoor, outdoor, in water and sea try. This is very important for the visitors as they would not only like to see a boat on land or parked at the pontoon but would like to take it for a trial run and see its speed, the gadgets and power. This is all arranged so that they get the best form the manufacturer”,added Mr. Hareb.

“This event will give a major boost to the local boat manufacturers, besides this year will witness a larger number of participants because of the venue. The development in and around the Marina will give rise to more interactivity between the Marina and residents on the two Palm Islands, Nakheel Properties, The World and other residential properties. There is an urgent need to have many more Marinas in Dubai and we are working on building a better infrastructure”, Mr Hareb added.

“Dubai has some of the best boat builders and this is the time for them to showcase their products which are of international standard. In a year some of them build upto 60 – 70 boats a year which are not only for the local market but mainly overseas”, Mr. Hareb informed.

DIMC was established initially in 1988 by the Government of Dubai to promote and facilitate leading watersports such as rowing, jet skiing, sailing and powerboat racing, and today it is the natural choice for major water sporting events. Since then, the Club has surpassed its brief and is now firmly established as the driving force behind the growth of national and international watersport events in the Middle East by becoming the first Arab organisation to be granted full membership of UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique), the world governing body of Motorised Watersports.

Over the years DIMC has matured and is now ready to play a more diverse role and through the staging of the Boat Show. DIMC expects to attract a diverse range of marine industry professionals from all facets of the pleasure boat industry domestically and internationally, including producers of luxury craft and service providers.

The DIMC offers extensive outdoor facilities including a large number of berths, equipped with electricity and water facilities for the mooring of racing fleet, whether powerboats, sailing yachts or private yachts.

Other facilities offered include unlimited craning facilities for both, sailing yachts and offshore powerboats, one slipway allowing for simultaneous and continuous launching of boats, an on-site helipad for the landing of up to five helicopters, extensive tarmac areas and a grass area for outdoor facilities for social and recreational activities. World Powerboat Champions, the UAE Victory Team, are also based adjacent to DIMC Marina and utilise the marina facilities for their boat trials.

Boat Show 2004 will see the Middle East’s largest ever assemblage of boats, inflatable craft, leisure craft, cruisers, yachts, powerboats, marine equipment and accessories, furniture and fittings, sports fishing products and virtually everything to do with the marine industry.
