Northerners will pay more than southerners for winter sun this half term

GoEuro research reveals that people living in the north of England pay more to travel to hotter destinations.

Northerners will pay more than southerners for their winter sun half term holidays, according to research carried out by multi-mode travel search website GoEuro.

Holidaymakers travelling from Manchester and Newcastle to the Mediterranean and North Africa over half term will pay £12.75 and £11.35 respectively for each degree Celsius rise in temperature, compared to Londoners who will pay just £10.63. For example, the return cost of travelling from Manchester to Santa Cruz de Tenerife is £486.80, compared to £299.00 return from London.

Holidaymakers travelling from the north are best opting to travel to Faro in Portugal during the half term break, with round-trips costing £171.73 from Manchester, and £113.63 from Newcastle, with an average travel time of 5 hours 19 minutes and 6 hours 5 minutes respectively, including check-in.  However, seasonal highs are on average only 23?C.

For Londoners, Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt is the most expensive destination at £464.18 per round-trip. However, for their cash, holidaymakers can expect to enjoy average highs of 31?C. Holidays to Valletta, Malta cost only £177.33 for average temperatures of 25?C.
