The Avinor Group in Norway moves its 46 airports to the Amadeus cloud

Avinor will initially implement Amadeus Airport Common Use Service (ACUS) in 8 airports, leading to a total of 46. The platform is expected to help Avinor reduce CO2 emissions by 5,000 tons.

MADRID – Airports are facing numerous business challenges, which include increasing passenger traffic. Today, The Avinor Group, operating 46 airports in Norway with over 50 million travelers, has signed an agreement with Amadeus to adopt its cloud-based Airport Common Use Service (ACUS) platform. The solution will offer cost-effective, customized and flexible passenger processing to Avinor’s airports nationwide, initially in 8 airports and leading up to a total of 46.

The switch to cloud brings a number of benefits to airports irrespective of their size, in addition to airlines and travelers. ACUS is a next-generation common use solution, which enables passenger processing systems to be accessed and deployed anywhere on demand, both in and outside the terminal. ACUS can be used from a PC, laptop or mobile device making it especially useful to process passengers during disruptions. In addition, airports and airlines will see reduced service costs and significant savings on the Wide Area Network (WAN) connections, a geographically dispersed communication network. This technology also significantly reduces the time and cost associated with the deployment of applications for the entire air transport community.

As a result of infrastructure and hardware reduction, Amadeus’ environmentally-friendly platform is expected to help Avinor airports reduce their total CO2 emissions by 5,000 tons annually. This agreement is further evidence of an industry-wide shift towards cloud-based systems, which represents a fundamental shift in airport IT provision.

“We are committed to creating lasting relationships with our customers and providing excellent service to the passenger,” said Brede Nielsen, CIO, The Avinor Group. “Switching to the cloud will help pave the road to this objective and change the traditional passenger-processing environment at airports for the better. Furthermore, by using Amadeus’ technology, The Avinor Group will be able to provide our airports with an innovative technology solution at a 25% cost reduction to the previous CUTE/CUPPS service whilst increasing customer satisfaction.”

“The Avinor Group’s adoption of ACUS shows that technology in the aviation industry is moving towards a model that encourages innovation and flexibility,” said John Jarrell, Head of Airport IT, Amadeus. “Our cloud-based platform is central to Amadeus’ broader commitment to improve airports’ operational efficiency and the passenger experience. Thanks to ACUS’ agility, Avinor’s airports will be better prepared to manage increasing passenger volumes that will ultimately benefit the traveler as well.”

This agreement follows the implementation of ACUS at Innsbruck Airport earlier this year.
