Tourism: An engine for employment creation

The Secretariat of the World Tourism Organization presents its compliments to the recipients of the present note and has the honour to refer to its note verbale CONF/291/2009 of 22 January concerning the Fifth UNWTO International Conference on Tourism Statistics – Tourism: an Engine for Employment Creation, which will be held from 30 March to 2 April 2009 in Bali, Indonesia.

A first objective of the Bali Conference is to discuss the “way forward”, now that the 2008 International Recommendations for Tourism Statistics have been approved by the United Nations (39th session of the Statistical Commission, February 2008). Another significant objective of the Bali Conference in 2009 is to address the issue of the measurement and quality of employment in the tourism industries. The Conference will focus, for the first time at the global level, on employment as a key challenge for National Tourism Administrations and the tourism industries.

Participants are kindly requested to register directly on the website of the Conference: http://www.unwto.org/TSAconf2009/registro/form.php. Please, note that working documents of the Conference will not be distributed on the spot, but rather sent to all registered participants by email and placed on the following website as they become available.

The Secretariat of the World Tourism Organization avails itself of the opportunity to renew to the recipients of the present note the assurances of its highest consideration.
