WTTC welcomes news from EU Member States which have introduced the new Digital COVID Certificate

‘Unless international travel is restored soon, this will have further economic impact and delay the global recovery’, says Virginia Messina, Senior Vice President WTTC.

In a major step towards the recovery of the Travel & Tourism sector, Virginia Messina, Senior Vice President WTTC, acknowledges the importance of the EU Digital COVID Certificate, which has now been given the green light by all member states.

“WTTC is delighted with the news that Greece, Germany, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Denmark, Croatia and Poland have launched the new Digital COVID Certificate well in advance of the planned 1 July rollout of the programme across the 27-nation bloc.

“The new certificate will allow travellers to visit from third countries with a proof of vaccination, a negative test, or a positive antibody test and will aid the restoration of international travel to these countries and we hope all other Member States will follow suit on 1 July.

“The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global Travel & Tourism sector has been devastating, not only in terms of the millions of jobs lost, but also the sector’s contribution to GDP. It has also had a very real negative impact on the lives of the millions of people who rely on the sector for their livelihood.

"Unless international travel is restored soon, this will have further economic impact and delay the global recovery.”
