A campaign to develop balneological and alternative tourism in the border region between Greece and Bulgaria was started by the Greek union of municipalities with mineral springs. The campaign aims to develop a joint tourist product between the municipalities of Thessaloniki, Kilkis, Serres and Pella in northern Greece in cooperation with the Bulgarian municipalities of Kyustendil and Blagoevgrad, in the southwestern part of the country, the Greek newspaper "Makedonia" reported.
The product is to be developed in the framework of the European initiative INTERREG IIIA/ PHARE CBS. Until now, according to the publication, an information bulletin and a guide to destinations have been published and are distributed, a website has been created and a conference has been organised, with the aim to show all the new forms of tourism that connect the mineral springs regions on both sides of the Greek-Bulgarian border.
According to the Greek municipalities’ union, most SPA complexes in northern Greece are in very good condition.
