Anthony G. Marshall, J.D., CHA, CHE, president of the Educational Institute (EI) of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF) resigned to return to academia. Marshall has accepted the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association Professorship in Lodging Management at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, and will assume his new position in the fall of 2005.

A widely respected academic and industry leader, Marshall joined EI in 1997 after serving 27 years as dean of the School of Hospitality Management at Florida International University in Miami. Marshall has written the popular column, At Your Risk, for the past 25 years in Hotel & Motel Management magazine.

The AH&LEF board of directors is deeply grateful to Dr. Marshall for all of his efforts and guidance at EI over the past seven years-he leaves a significantly healthier and effective organization than he inherited, said Quorum Hotels & Resorts Chairman/CEO and AH&LEF Chairman Anthony Farris, CHA.

During his tenure, Marshall`s leadership and vision increased EI`s revenue, significantly reduced its debt, and created a model that enables EI to have a balanced budget, while continuously updating existing material and creating new products. Marshall also expanded the academic and industry international markets, which have become important contributors to EI`s revenue and growth.

Tony`s many contributions have helped define EI as the premier source for delivering quality hospitality education and training to hospitality schools and industries worldwide, said AH&LA President/CEO Joseph A. McInerney, CHA. We appreciate Tony`s dedication to the mission of EI and know he`ll always remain a strong advocate of EI.

A search for a replacement for Marshall is currently underway and is being handled internally by AH&LA. All interested candidates should submit their resume to AH&LA Senior Director of Human Resources Alice Laughlin at alaughlin@ahla.com or fax to (202) 289-3138.
