Peter J. Odle, president of the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA), announced a return to a more streamlined, efficient annual conference of the Caribbean hospitality industry. The annual CHA convention (formerly the Caribbean Hotel Industry Conference, CHIC) is now the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Conference, a more inclusive two-day meeting with greater emphasis on education, following the feedback of CHA members regarding their needs and expectations for the annual industry convention.

CHTC 2007 starts Sunday, June 17 and ends June 19th, at the Hyatt Regency Miami, in Florida.

The conference agenda, which is a day shorter, rests largely on ten business development sessions that emphasize realistic applications. The itinerary purposefully avoids simultaneous breakout sessions in favor of a single session per time slot, which allows delegates to focus on one content area at a time.

Meanwhile, topics were selected to ensure that it addressed the issues of relevance for the wider Caribbean hotel and tourism industry, including the rising mixed-use accommodations segment, the ancillary business sector, as well as the industry’s counterparts in government.

Taste of the Caribbean 2007

CHTC 2007 will incorporate again the annual regional culinary competition Taste of the Caribbean. Following many months of training and rehearsals, 13 national culinary teams from across the region, whose members travel this weekend to Miami, Florida, will compete in the annual culinary competition and all-Caribbean food and beverage showcase, Taste of the Caribbean 2007.

In addition to the cooking competition, each national culinary team will also host a demonstration of its country’s indigenous cuisine, highlighting the region’s rich diversity and variety.
