More and more are travelling with airplanes according to International Aviation Transport Association (IATA), with over 1.8 billion passengers to have travelled only in 2004. The aviation industry estimates that the annual international passenger growth will be 5.6% until 2009. However, serious challenges are ahead for the industry, as the fuel prices are increasing.
From the other hand, modern travellers search for convenience and connectivity but they are not willing to pay for the industry`s efforts to modernise and advance its systems.
These issues will concern the aviation community in the Aviation Summit, which will take palce in Singapore on 20 February 2006. Asia has chozen to accommodate the event as the continent is one of the most dynamic markets in aviation today.
The programme of the Summit will include three discussion panels:
Panel Discussion 1 : Mapping The Future, Winning Strategies
The air transport industry is changing – new markets are emerging, costs are rising, shifts in travel patterns and many more.
This panel, comprising Brian Pearce, IATA’s Chief Economist, ATW Editorial Director, J.A. Donoghue and the winners of the Air Transport World Airline Industry Achievement Awards, will map the future of air transport, identify key industry trends, emerging markets and changes in travel patterns. The panel will also look at the changes in the way people travel, discuss how airlines can create and retain value in the industry, as well as what can be done to contain rising costs when it seems uncontrollable. Learn from successful strategies already in place.
Panel Discussion 2 : Let`s Help The Passenger
The value proposition for passengers is changing. They are willing to pay for value, but not for complexity. And IATA’s Simplifying The Business is leading the way in the air transports industry’s evolution towards a low cost industry and will enhance the passengers’ travel experience.
This panel will discuss the present and future of what can be done by airlines and airports to help the passenger, explore the opportunities made available by technology, and identify what passengers value when they travel.

Indian carriers also placed over US$12 billion of aircraft orders at the Paris Air Show. With GDP growth of 7.2% for 2005 to 2009, air traffic growth can be expected to be in the 15% range. Significant changes, both regulatory and infrastructure, are taking place in India. This panel will discuss the travel trends, opportunities and changes in taking place, and will also give an insight into the huge market.
