The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) today announced a new initiative to provide government travel professionals a source of networking, information, education, news and research within a broad travel management context. By joining the NBTA Government Travel Group (GTG), government travel managers and suppliers of government travel solutions will gain access to the member benefits that have long set NBTA apart as the leading association for corporate travel professionals.

The NBTA Government Travel Group is a subset of NBTA membership offered to both travel managers (Direct members) and travel suppliers (Allied members). NBTA GTG members will be able to access all NBTA member benefits, such as leading educational offerings, the Annual NBTA Convention and Trade Show, a daily e-newsletter providing industry news, original research from NBTA and its foundation, sample RFPs and other tools to help travel management professionals perform.

An NBTA GTG Advisory Board made up of government travel managers and industry partners will represent the interests of the group`s members to NBTA. The Advisory Board is currently led by NBTA GTG charter member Becky Rhodes, Deputy Associate Administrator, Office of Governmentwide Policy, Office of Travel, Transportation and Asset Management, U.S. General Services Administration.

Carol A. Devine, CCTE, NBTA president and CEO, said, NBTA is proud to welcome government travel professionals into membership. With private and public sector travel management professionals in the same organization for the first time, NBTA can capitalize on synergies between both groups to provide better education, networking, research, news and information to all travel management professionals.

I`m excited to play a role in establishing a new resource for government travel professionals,
said NBTA GTG Advisory Board Chair Rhodes. Government travel management has seen significant advancement in recent years, pioneering new best practices and establishing government-wide standards. Membership in NBTA gives government travel managers access to industry best practices that will position the government to continuously deliver world class travel management through the eTravel System, a platform which supports compliance with government travel policies, provides access to preferred suppliers, and streamlines business processes.

The NBTA Government Travel Group Advisory Board is comprised of the following members:

  • Becky Rhodes (Chair), Deputy Associate Administrator, Office of Governmentwide Policy, Office of Travel, Transportation and Asset Management, U.S. General Services Administration
  • Marc Stec, President, Society of Government Travel Professionals
  • Bill Tirrell, Chief, Travel and Transportation Branch of the Per Diem, Travel and Transportation Allowance Committee, U.S. Department of Defense
