Seatrade Middle East Maritime – the region`s premier conference and exhibition for the marine sector – has been given a resounding welcome in Pakistan with the country`s industry leaders planning to mount a national pavilion at the event.

More than 200 senior business and marine industry representatives, including senior official from Pakistan`s major ports, attended a reception to brief them on Seatrade Middle East Maritime, which will be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre from December 6-8, 2004.

Staged jointly by Bulk Shipping & Trading (PVT) Ltd., Pakistan`s leading shipping agent and freight forwarder and the UK`s Seatrade Communications, which organizes Seatrade Middle East Maritime, the reception, held at the Karachi Marriott Hotel, produced a strong response.

Chief Guest was Vice Admiral Ahmad Hayat, Chairman of the Karachi Port Trust, who outlined major expansion plans for the Port of Karachi and the need for international dialogue.

Seatrade Middle East Maritime can provide the international communications needed, said Chris Hayman, Managing Director, Seatrade. The event is a unique meeting place for shipping and trading professionals covering West and Central Asia.

Hayman said the 2004 Seatrade conference programme would cover a variety of issues from liner shipping, dry and liquid bulk transport, to port development, ship building and trading.

This comes at a time of strong demand and unprecedented growth in the region`s shipping industry, said Hayman.

The Seatrade programme will also cover the potential for cruise tourism in the region, with strong support from the world`s leading cruise operators.

Seatrade Middle East Maritime 2004 is expected to triple in size on last year`s event to more than 2,400 square metres with some 200-300 exhibitors.

We also expect a very strong visitor turnout and are targeting around 5,000 delegates and visitors representing ship owners, trading companies and charterers, ship builders, brokers, ports, ship agents, suppliers, travel agents, insurers and lawyers, explained Hayman. It will be the largest shop window of products and services for the maritime industry ever assembled in the Middle East.

Seatrade representatives are now to stage similar promotional events for the convex in Iran, India, Turkey and throughout the GCC.

Seatrade Middle East Maritime is being held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister. Principal sponsors of the event are the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Government of Dubai, Dubai Maritime City, Dubai Port Authority and the Islamic Republic Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL).

The event is supported by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Dubai Shipping Agents Association, the Indian National Shipowners` Association, the National Association of Freight & Logistics, the Nautical Institute UAE Branch and the UAE National Ship Suppliers Association.

The event is also sponsored by Aqua Group, Clyde & Co, HSBC, Instone International, Lloyd`s Register, Maritime London, Net Cruises, Scan-Trans Chartering LLC, Sharaf Shipping Agency LLC and TEAM Nico International.
