Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport reopened

Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport

The Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport resumeδ operations at 6 AM after being closed by the state transportation department on Monday afternoon. The closure was prompted by the discovery of cracks in the runway.

Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority in a statement about the status in Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport says:

“The runway at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA) on the Island of Hawaiʻi has reopened and flights have resumed this morning thanks to the overnight work of the Department of Transportation and their contractors.

Mahalo to all those who worked quickly to coordinate and accommodate passengers with cancelled or diverted flights during the runway closure, including our team who monitored this closure through the night.

The overnight closure may impact today’s flight schedule. We strongly recommend travelers check with their airline for impacts on flights to or from KOA today.

Mālama pono.”
