Perth airport, Australia, selects ARINC`s reliable BagLinkTM solution

ARINC Incorporated announced its BagLinkTM technology has been chosen as a key component of the new automated baggage handling system for Terminal 1, the International Terminal of Perth Airport, in Western Australia. ARINC’s customer is Westralia Airports Corporation, the owner of Perth Airport.

“The middleware is a critical component in our new baggage handling system,” said Alan Davey, Westralia Airports Corp. Building Project Manager. “We selected ARINC’s on-site BagLink solution because of its proven track record of high availability.”

Unlike other solutions, ARINC BagLink uses on-site servers to process critical data for baggage reconciliation locally at each airport. Recently this approach has proven more reliable than remote servers, in which a single-point failure can affect multiple airports.

“We welcome this contract from Westralia Airports Corporation as a vote of confidence in ARINC’s technology in the Australian market,” stated Randy Pizzi, Managing Director, ARINC Asia Pacific. “Perth Airport is the gateway to Western Australia, and we are delighted to make new friends here—along with significant commercial progress.”

Efficient handling of baggage data is critical to airport operations because airline flights cannot take off without baggage reconciliation. BagLink reliably delivers baggage source messages (BSMs) locally from airline computers to the baggage sortation system, regardless of the system involved. Content-based routing and bidirectional traffic capability mean BagLink integrates easily across all types of airport systems. At Perth, BagLink will serve all airlines at Terminal 1, and the system can be extended to handle additional carriers regardless of terminal locations.

ARINC Airport Systems is recognized as the leading innovator in common-use passenger technology. Its MUSE® family of passenger systems is found at more than 100 airports worldwide, and used by 260 airlines carrying more than 300 million passengers a year.

Perth Airport, fourth largest in Australia in terms of passenger movement, is a domestic and international gateway served by 14 international, two domestic, and three regional airlines carrying 7 million passengers a year. Perth Airport is strategically located for international flights to South East Asia, Europe and Africa, passenger figures for the last financial year showed growth of 9.5% domestically and 12% internationally. Westralia Airports Corporation holds a 99-year leasehold interest in Perth Airport. Situated just eight miles from the city of Perth, the airport now anchors a growing business and industrial community with a range of campus office, industrial, and logistics sites offering convenient major highway, rail, and air access.
