United Airlines restores 162 flights to its June schedule, which includes increased service to many domestic, European and Pacific destinations that was previously reduced due to a drop in demand during the Iraq war. As a result, United will operate 1,722 daily domestic and international departures in June, compared with 1,560 per day in May 2003.
We are delighted to offer our customers a wider variety of more convenient travel options by restoring 162 flights to United`s schedule, said Marty St. George, Director-Network Planning. As we prepare for the summer travel season, we have been encouraged by the upturn in bookings that indicate a strong recovery in many of the markets we serve.
Some of the highlights of United`s new domestic schedule, which takes effect June 12, include:
- From Chicago, United will add seasonal service to Anchorage (two daily round-trips) and Calgary (one daily round-trip). There also will be frequency increases to Atlanta; Boston; Columbus, Ohio; Detroit; Minneapolis; Portland, OR; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Providence and Seattle. In addition, due to increased summer demand, select United Express regional jet service to Cincinnati, Burlington, Des Moines, St. Louis and Grand Rapids will be upgraded to United mainline aircraft.
- From Denver, United will increase daily departures to Atlanta; Boston; Detroit; Los Angeles; Minneapolis; Newark, NJ; Portland, OR; San Diego; San Francisco; San Jose and Seattle. In addition, select United Express regional jet service to Wichita and Salt Lake City will be upgraded to United`s mainline aircraft for the summer season. United will also launch summer seasonal service to Jackson Hole, WY and Anchorage.
- From Los Angeles, United will offer additional flights to Washington Dulles and Orlando, FL.
- From San Francisco, the company will increase flights to Baltimore; Boston; Honolulu, Kona and Maui; Las Vegas; New York`s JFK; Philadelphia; and Portland, OR. In addition, United will reinstate nonstop service between San Francisco and Seoul on June 2, as previously announced. This service was last flown in September, 2001 and suspended as part of the post September 11 service cutbacks.
St. George continued, United will restore all transatlantic service cutbacks made in May and some service in the Pacific. However, because we are still seeing weakness in bookings to some Pacific markets due to SARS, we have extended the spring frequency reductions on several Pacific routes. We continue to monitor Pacific bookings on a daily basis and hope to return to our full Asian schedule by Fall 2003.
Transatlantic service that is being restored effective June 1 includes:
- Daily Chicago-Amsterdam service;
- A fourth daily frequency between Washington Dulles and London;
- A third daily frequency between Chicago and London;
- A second daily frequency between San Francisco and London; and
- United`s second daily Chicago-Frankfurt service, which had been reduced to three times weekly, will revert to daily service.
Restored flights in the Pacific region include:
- All Australia service, including resumption of daily San Francisco- Sydney service, up from three times weekly, effective June 1; and
- All Tokyo service, including resumption of a second daily flight between Narita and Chicago, up from three times weekly. In addition, as part of the company`s growth at Tokyo, the second daily nonstop between San Francisco and Narita will be upgraded from a Boeing 777 to a Boeing 747-400.
