Thessaloniki has been awarded the World Corporate Games 2003 to be staged November 21-23. The project will be officially launched at the Makedonia Palace hotel, Thessaloniki on Monday, 26 May 2003.
Attending the launch are Dr. Maureen Johnston, President of Sport For Life and Founder of the World Corporate Games, Dr. Ken O`Bryan Vice President of Sport for Life and Ms. Paige Van Every Marketing Director.
Patron of the Games is Mr. Dionissis H. Psomiades, Deputy Prefect of the Prefectural Self-Authority of Thessaloniki.
The World Corporate Games was first held in San Francisco in 1988 and since then has gone from strength to strength being staged in such cities as London, Lille, Geneva, Johannesburg, Stuttgart, and The Hague, and in such diverse lands as San Francisco .
Thessaloniki has been chosen to host the prestigious event because of its historical, cultural and sporting heritage and its status as a major city in the region.
The 15th World Corporate Games will bring thousands of participants together to play in a wide range of sports from badminton to volleyball and pump around E2M into the region`s economy. Events are split into competition classes based on age ranges from Open to 50+ and are open equally to men and women.
The World Corporate Games is a blend of sport, business and tourism and is open to everyone regardless of ability, age or experience. It is especially popular among professional groups such as volleyball and the like because it also offers an opportunity to include clients, family and friends in the team.
More than 150 organisations are expected to participate, many of whom are major multinationals but most are medium size companies and partnerships who like to get the team building and health and fitness benefits the Games provides.
Included in the weekend are the sports, the Grand Parade, the Opening Celebration, and a host of other activities, gifts, prizes, fun and friendship.
The SuperCentre, or hub of the Games, is at the Makedonia Palace hotel. Registration, sponsors, media and results are housed there. In addition it will host the Games Great Saturday Night Party which this year will have several themes, each related to some aspect of Greece and the Games.
The 15th World Corporate Games is taking place under the auspices of the GNTO, the Prefecture of Thessaloniki and the city of Thessaloniki. Olympic Airways is the official airline.
