Edinburgh has proved to be the consistent star-performer in Scotland’s hotel market. An analysis of the HotelBenchmark Survey results reveals that the city has grown its revenue per available room (revPAR) premium from 18 to 30 percent over the regional UK average between 2000 and April 2004. This is in contrast to the performance of Aberdeen and Glasgow, both of which have consistently under-performed the regional UK average.

Edinburgh is home to the Scottish Parliament and is widely recognised as an international conference destination and the festival capital of Europe. It is the second most visited city in the UK and the second largest financial services centre after London. Other key industries that Edinburgh is reliant upon include biotechnology, microelectronics and software.
