Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 has tallied up the number of languages spoken by its 134 staff, as part of its commitment to welcoming delegates and leisure guests from around the world.
Within the hotel 30 languages are spoken fluently across reception, spa, catering and the event management teams. These include English, Greek, Romanian, Portuguese, Spanish, Polish, Konkani (Goan), Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, French, Punjabi, Bengali, Gurarati, Italian, Afrikaans, Slovak, Nepalese, German, Swahili, Japanese, Dutch, Hungarian, Thai, Korean, Lithuanian, Filipino, Russian and Chinese.
Located close to Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, the hotel has become a hub for international events, conferences and leisure guests, meaning that these language skills are often put to frequent use with delegates and guests.
Meredith Bevan, general manager at Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, comments: “The hotel places great value on delighting guests and offering unique experiences. Having staff that can speak a number of languages in addition to English makes our guests feel that little bit more welcomed and valued. Since opening in 2011 we’ve been committed to ensuring we have the most skilled staff in the industry, and this extends to versatile language skills, particularly in relation to our reputation for hosting global business events, associations and conferences”.
The announcement follows the launch of the Guide to Global Business, which aims to help event organisers plan large scale events involving international delegates. The guide includes advice on business negotiations, introductions, catering, dress code, body language and spoken language.
