Hotel prices up 63% for Champions League Final in London

Hotel prices have increased by an average of 11 per cent in comparison to last month, according to the tHPI based on the 50 most popular European cities in trivago. One night in May will cost an average of £108, compared to £97 in April.

Hotel prices in London have increased by 63 per cent this Saturday 25th May, according to the trivago Hotel Price Index (tHPI) reported monthly by hotel comparison website trivago.co.uk. On the same day Wembley Stadium will welcome 90,000 visitors to the UEFA Champions League Final, one night in London will cost an average of £281. This is a £108 increase from the monthly average of £173 per night.

Hotel prices have also increased the day preceding the Champions League Final. One night on Friday 24th May will cost an average of £224, which is a 30 per cent increase from the monthly average. The day following the Champions League Final, hotel prices decrease by 48 per cent to an average of £145, despite this being a Bank Holiday in the UK.

Hotel prices increase by up to 44% across Europe as summer season begins

Venice is the most expensive destination this month, where hotel prices have increased by 38 per cent to an average of £238 per night. Other significant increases can be found in Riga (up 44 per cent to an average of £85 per night), Prague (up 34 per cent to £125), Istanbul (up 29 per cent to £159) and Budapest (also up 27 per cent to £80).

Cannes Film Festival: Hotel prices increase by up to 247%
Hotel prices have increased by an average of 164 per cent during the Cannes Film Festival, which runs from Wednesday 15th to Sunday 26th May. One night during the festival will cost an average of £286, compared to an average of £109 in the weeks preceding and succeeding the event. The most expensive day to book is Thursday 16th May, when one night will cost an average of £377. This is a 247 per cent increase from the days leading up to and following the festival.

Monaco Grand Prix: Hotel prices increase by 34%
Hotel prices in Monaco have increased by 34 percent this month, from an average of £266 per night in April to £355 in May. The Grand Prix will be held in Monaco on Sunday 26th May, with the qualifying race on Saturday 25th. Hotel prices have also increased by 27 per cent in Nice (from £97 per night in April to £123 in May), which is located just 12 miles and a 30 minute drive from Monaco.

Sweden: Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo and ABBA The Museum in Stockholm
This month sees ABBA The Museum open its doors in Stockholm and the Eurovision Song Contest take place in Malmo on Saturday 18th May, with the semi-finals on Tuesday 14th and Thursday 16th. Hotel prices have increased in Stockholm by 22 per cent this month, from an average of £138 per night in April to £169 in May. In Malmo, hotel prices have increased by 13 per cent, from an average of £120 per night in April to £135 in May.

Brighton Festival: Hotel prices increase by 19%
Brighton Festival is England’s largest art festival, taking place between Saturday 4th and Sunday 26th May and welcoming over 200,000 visitors. Hotel prices have increased by 19 per cent in Brighton this month, making it the third most expensive popular UK destination, after London and Edinburgh. One night in May will cost an average of £118, compared to £99 in April.

As the summer season approaches, hotel prices have also increased in Edinburgh and London this month. One night in Edinburgh will cost an average of £122 in May. This is up 28 per cent from £95 per night in April, and can also be attributed to the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May. One night in London will cost an average of £173 in May, up 15 per cent from £150 per night in April.
