Countdown is underway for the opening this autumn of a new resort at Jebel Dhanna, 240km west of Abu Dhabi city, the first move in the development of the area as a major tourism destination.
The 109-room five-star Danat Resort Jebel Dhanna will be owned and operated by the National Corporation for Tourism & Hotels (NCT&H), one of two government-backed organisations in the capital aiming to position Abu Dhabi as an international resort of the future.
The corporation already operates hotels in Dhafra, Liwa, Mirfa and Mafraq – and also owns the two InterContinental Hotels in the emirate – but the launch of the new resort marks a new phase in its development with the addition of the upscale property.
According to a NCT&H spokesperson, the resort complements the corporation’s existing network of properties in Abu Dhabi emirate, as well as offering top-of-the-range facilities to attract sectors such as the conference and incentive markets to the west coast for the first time.
Features of the resort include a pristine sand beach stretching for one kilometre plus a full range of beach and water sports, as well as two floodlit tennis courts, a par-36 nine hole sand golf course and a driving range, children’s club, extensive banqueting and meeting rooms catering for up to 1,000 guests, the Body and Soul Health Club, Arabic and bistro restaurants and a C-View cafe, and six waterfront villas.
