Guest experience enhanced through classical and contemporary Spanish influences.

Having previously redesigned Guestrooms and Executive Suites of The Westin Palace Madrid, Areen Design was invited to reimagine the Royal Suite of the hotel. With its iconic history and location, the building has always held a special place in the story of the city. Given the hotel’s history as a favourite for artists and performers, the cultural significance of such an opportunity was not lost on the design team. As the most prestigious accommodation in the hotel, the refurbishment of the Royal Suite presented an opportunity to create an upscale, striking and memorable interior befitting its status.

The Royal Suite is located on the hotel’s fourth floor overlooking Madrid’s Neptune fountain and the Prado Museum. The suite consists of a luxurious Master Bedroom and Bathroom, separate Dining Room with an adjoining Study, Kitchenette, Powder Room and distinctly oval Living Room.

Andrew Linwood, Head of Hospitality at Areen Design, comments: “We are proud to have been appointed to design the Royal Suite. The biggest challenge of this project was to be able to create a dramatic, upscale interior within budget. As a result, we significantly transformed the suite and created a bespoke narrative for all spaces. The concept of natural references aligned with those echoed in the classic architectural details of the hotel, Madrid’s historical architecture and parks, and the Westin brand’s biophilic design principles. Our team worked closely with various architects and project managers to source furniture elements that would be cost-effective but still evoke a sense of luxury. It is a true delight to be able to add the Royal Suite to our portfolio.”

The design merges together classical references with cultural and contemporary Spanish influences, infusing new life into each of the spaces. The striking architecture of the Royal Suite is highlighted through a cooler palette of colours, whilst the dynamic energy and vibrancy of flamenco is captured in bold artworks, contrasting upholstery and finishes. Furniture is characterised by flowing forms conveying a sense of elegance and comfort. Lighting and accessories are inspired by the intricacy and movement of leaves through nature, and the blossoms of almond trees in Madrid. The refurbishment covered all 160sqm of the suite creating an uplift reflecting a sense of understated luxury, authentic timelessness and harmonious design.
