Budapest Airport launches Winter 2015 programme

Budapest Airport is firmly on the road to reach the definitive 10 million mark in 2015.

Recording +16% monthly passenger growth in September whilst welcoming more than 1 million extra travellers than this time last year, Budapest Airport is firmly on the road to reach the definitive 10 million mark in 2015. Having already celebrated 14 new links during the summer season–notably vital direct routes to Beijing, Toronto and Montreal – the capital city continues to far outperform the European average passenger growth of +5.1%.

Continuing to develop its solid route network, the Hungarian gateway has launched W15/16 by celebrating two new routes in the first week, from its two largest airlines: home-based Wizz Air’s twice-weekly service to Tenerife South; and Europe’s large st low-cost carrier, Ryanair’s daily flight to Copenhagen.

Launching its fifth winter sun destination from Budapest, and the airport’s first link to Tenerife South, Wizz Air’s inaugural flight to the largest Canary Island was welcomed on 30 October by Jose Angel Lopez Jorrin, Ambassador of Spain in Hungary (left), and Kam Jandu, Chief Commercial Officer, Budapest Airport. The new twice-weekly service means that Budapest’s home-based carrier now serves 44 routes, to a total 21 countries, from the Hungarian capital airport.

Budapest Airport Zrt. is the operator of Budapest Airport. It is owned by an international consortium of investors, led by the privately-owned German company AviAlliance, an independent airport manager holding a 52.66% stake, together with Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec (20.17%), Malton Investment Pte Ltd. (22.17%) and KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH (5%).
