P.R.O.F.I.T. in the Caribbean – On the road across Europe

As part of the European promotional programme the PROFIT team has conducted a series of Road shows and meetings in major cites across Europe.

These Road shows held in June 2004 provided a forum for interested companies to learn first hand about new tourism partnership and investment opportunities in the Caribbean and a chance to discuss with the event organisers the various options and incentives developed to encourage participation at the Partnership Meeting to be held in Jamaica in October 2004.

Promotional road shows have already been held in Lisbon, London, Madrid and Barcelona, Paris, Brussels, Hannover, Dusseldorf and Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Milan. Dates are also being planned for Dublin and the Scandinavian countries.

Attendees of the event in London included potential investors in hotel, tourism and leisure, architects and planners, and development, property and marketing consultants. Oliver Bennett, Director of Deloitte Emerging Markets Group explained the fantastic opportunities for European travel and tourism businesses presented by the PROFIT scheme. The event was hosted by BCCB and included a presentation by Pat Francis, head of JAMPRO and President of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies.

The PROFIT Road shows follow on from the Deloitte team`s promotion of PROFIT at a series of international travel trade events including I.T.B. and the International Hotel Investment Forum in Berlin. PROFIT in the Caribbean was promoted to leading tourism companies worldwide at the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Annual Conference in Doha at the beginning of May. WTTC is an organisation of the Chief Executives of tourism companies and is the only international tourism organisation to represent the private sector. The Summit provided a valuable opportunity to spread the word about the PROFIT programme to key travel industry figures. Rick Miller, Executive Vice president of the WTTC is pictured above.

Preparation is well underway for the PROFIT in the Caribbean Partnership Meeting to be held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Montego Bay Jamaica in October 2004. The Caribbean Hotel Association`s annual Hotel Investment Conference (CHTIC) was held in Jamaica on 10 – 12 May 2004. The opening plenary session featured a presentation entitled `Focus on PROFIT in the Caribbean: PRO€INVEST Initiative` focusing on the key elements of the PROFIT in the Caribbean programme and its benefits to delegates. A subsequent workshop session provided further insight into how Caribbean enterprises can participate in the PROFIT initiative and the opportunities for partnerships with European companies.

The response to the promotion of PROFIT in the Caribbean has been overwhelming. To date over 200 Caribbean business projects have been submitted by companies wishing to participate in the PROFIT in the Caribbean Partnership Meeting.
