An agreement for the development of an Exhibition & Conference Centre at the Athens airport was signed by Athens International Airport S.A. (AIA) and companies ROTA EPE, J&P – Avax S.A. and  DAMCO ENERGY S.A.

The new state-of-the-art Exhibition Centre is expected to launch operations in 2009. It will provide top-notch services, offering 50,000 m² of covered space for exhibition events, and over 3,000 parking spaces. The operations of the Exhibition Centre will be supported by conference facilities for up to 700 attendees.

The completion of the project will mark the creation of a significant big-scale exhibition venue for the city of Athens, which is projected to boost significantly business travel volumes, as well as tourist traffic.

The “airport city”

Following the completion of the airport’s Retail Park* in March 2007, the development of AIA’s Exhibition Centre indicates the next step towards the materialization of the Airport Company’s vision to create a modern “airport city”, making Athens International Airport an autonomous and attractive business destination.

By establishing a business hub in the surrounding Messogia area, the airport’s real estate development is expected to contribute significantly to job creation, as well as to the economic development of the greater region.

* The Airport’s Retail Park: ÉÊÅÁ, KOTSOVOLOS MEGASTORE (electrical appliances), FACTORY OUTLET shop-in-a-shop, LEROY MERLIN, OLYMPUS PLAZA Food Park, and SHELL station.
