To celebrate the release of Academy Award-winning director Mike Nichols`s new film Closer, a searing critique of contemporary love shot exclusively in the capital, Film London and Visit London have produced the Closer Movie Map to coincide with the film`s release on 14 January 2005.

Closer, recently nominated for five Golden Globe Awards and based on the highly acclaimed play by Patrick Marber, is a bitingly-funny and honest look at modern relationships as four strangers` lives intertwine in the capital. The Closer Movie Map traces the locations of the chance meetings and casual betrayals of four people living in London played by Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen.

The film`s striking locations are real London hidden gems. From the restaurant at the National Portrait Gallery with its stunning views over the city to Postman`s Park, a little-known memorial to unsung war heroes who sacrificed their lives and Charterhouse Street in EC1 in the Smithfield area of the city, where real Londoners live and hang out in cool bars, clubs and restaurants including Smiths of Smithfield and Fabric.

Other memorable locations include the London Aquarium on London`s South Bank, where one of the film`s most pivotal moments is set. Scenes filmed on the river Thames juxtapose the new Swiss Re building (The Gherkin) against the newly restored magnificence of Sir Christopher Wren`s St Paul`s.

Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London said, This is the fifth movie map, which Film London and Visit London have produced to celebrate the breadth and diversity of film locations in the capital. The Closer Movie Map reveals the beauty and variety of a city that Londoners will recognise as the contemporary and energetic place that we all know and love.

David Campbell, Chief Executive of Visit London said: The Closer Movie Map profiles new and hidden London over traditional tourist haunts. The locations will appeal to Londoners as well as to visitors, who want to keep a finger on the pulse of the world`s most exciting city.
