Continental Airlines announces Daily non-stop service between New York/Newark and Stockholm

Continental Airlines today announced it will launch daily non-stop flights between New York/Newark and Stockholm

Continental Airlines today announced it will launch daily non-stop flights between New York/Newark and Stockholm effective June 2, 2005, subject to government approval. The new service will link the capital of Sweden with New York and Continental`s hub at Newark Liberty International Airport — with connections to 170 other cities throughout North, Central and South America, the Caribbean and beyond.

Travelers who use our New York hub have been asking us for more access to Scandinavia, and we are pleased to answer that request with our new flights to Stockholm, said Jim Summerford, Continental`s Vice President – Europe & Middle East. This route builds on Newark Liberty`s status as having more trans-Atlantic routes — 24 — than any airline hub on either continent. Continental`s New York/Newark-Stockholm flights will be operated with a 172-seat Boeing 757 aircraft, carrying 16 passengers in the BusinessFirst cabin and 156 in Economy.

Flight CO68 will depart New York/Newark daily at 6:00 p.m., arriving at Stockholm/Arlanda at 7:55 a.m. the next day. The return flight, CO69, will depart Stockholm/Arlanda daily at 9:25 a.m., arriving at New York/Newark at 12:10 p.m. the same day. Flying times will be approximately seven hours 55 minutes eastbound and eight hours 45 minutes westbound.

The new flights will feature Continental`s renowned BusinessFirst service, which won the Best Executive/Business Class award in the OAG Airline of the Year Awards in both 2004 and 2003, based on voting by frequent flyers worldwide. This premium-class cabin features extra-wide electronic sleeper seats with 55-inch pitch, adjustable winged headrests and personal video screens. Other BusinessFirst amenities include gourmet menus and award- winning wines and champagnes. A specially selected and trained corps of more than 200 Concierges provides individualized pre-flight and post-flight services for BusinessFirst customers at 21 key international airports worldwide.

Sweden, with a population of nine million, is the largest of the Nordic countries and the 12th largest economy in Europe. The royal capital city Stockholm, with a population of 1.8 million, was founded 750 years ago and features a wealth of cultural and tourist attractions. There are approximately 4.6 million Americans with Swedish ancestry. The United States is Sweden`s biggest export market, accounting for $12 billion a year — 12 percent of total exports — and there are over 1,200 U.S.-owned companies in Sweden. More than 300,000 Americans visit Sweden every year.

Stockholm will become Continental`s second destination in Scandinavia. Continental launched a daily Boeing 757 non-stop service between Oslo, Norway and New York/Newark in June 2004.

The new Stockholm flights will be available for sale on continental.com beginning Sunday, Oct. 24.
