England`s Northwest Tourism is everybody`s business

`Tourism is one of the Northwest`s most important emerging industries. It`s everybody`s business and everyone has a part to play in delivering it` – that`s the message from the new Tourism Forum for England`s Northwest.

The new Forum has been created to develop and market the tourism industry across the region. Tourism is already a multi billion pound industry employing around 12% of the workforce.

The Tourism Forum for England`s Northwest, funded by the Northwest Development Agency (NWDA), is made up of the five tourist boards which cover the region. The new Forum is responsible for driving up the quality and range of facilities and attractions, as well as marketing the region to an increasingly broad range of potential visitors. The Forum has set a ten-year vision to make the Northwest one of the most successful tourism destinations in the UK.

The Forum is headed by Felicity Goodey, Broadcaster and Business Woman. Members of the Forum include the Chairs and Chief Executives of the five regional tourist boards, a number of independent tourism experts and business people, VisitBritain, NWDA and the North West Regional Assembly.

The Forum celebrated its launch at the London Carriage Company restaurant, situated within the Hope Street Hotel, Liverpool, and was hosted by The Mersey Partnership.

Felicity Goodey, Chair, Tourism Forum for England`s Northwest, said: Tourism is set to grow into one of the most important sources of wealth and jobs for the region. It is already a multi billion pound industry. Tourism isn`t just about good marketing, quality hotels and restaurants and first class visitor attractions, its also about clean streets, fabulous service wherever you go, transport systems which are clean, efficient and well- connected, easy access booking and information services, an attractive environment – in short, tourism is everybody`s business.

The potential rewards are well worth making the effort to get the product right. The Northwest has some of the finest attractions in the country, many of them ideally suited to short term breaks at any time of the year. This is the UK`s first Tourism Forum, a powerful group of industry experts with the skills, backing and connections to make the Northwest into one of the most attractive destinations in Europe.
