The new year comes off to a good start for the German Convention Bureau (GCB). Eleven hotels, event venues, convention centres, cities and agencies in Germany have decided to join the association. They will benefit from the countless activities of the central marketing organisation. The GCB markets Germany both nationally and internationally as a destination for congresses, meetings, incentives and events and is the place to contact for anybody planning an event in Germany. The new members round off the association`s portfolio. Things are happening in our industry and providers are very active. We are happy that so many new partners are working with us on our joint goal of boosting Germany`s status as one of the world`s leading destinations for meetings, incentives, congresses and events, says GCB director Lutz P. Vogt.

The GCB`s new cities include the convention bureaux of Magdeburg Marketing Kongress und Tourismus (MMKT) GmbH and Osnabruck – Marketing und Tourismus GmbH. In the field of hotels, convention centres and event venues the Radisson SAS Hotel Frankfurt, Alte Oper Frankfurt, and Kur- und Kongre?-GmbH Bad Homburg with its Kurhaus convention centre complete the range of providers. The new addition to professional congress organisers (PCOs) is the event management of Georg Thieme Verlag KG. New event and incentive agency members include Der-Congress, a department of Dertour GmbH & Co. KG, and GTC German Tours & Conference GmbH, Liberty International Reisen GmbH; and PR&O GmbH. And finally, Meta-Fusion GmbH has also joined the club as a service provider for Internet and multimedia applications.

Magdeburg Marketing Kongress und Tourismus (MMKT) GmbH markets the federal state capital of Saxony-Anhalt as a destination for congresses and meetings. In 2005, when the city turns 1200, the German Engineers` Convention will take place there, and 2006 will see the staging of the German Doctors` Convention. Since March 2004 the convention and meetings bureau of Osnabruck – Marketing und Tourismus GmbH has been the official place to contact for people planning and organising conferences, meetings, seminars, events and incentives. It is supported by 90 partners in the hotel and catering industry, as well as agencies, museums and event venues in the city and region.

The new Radisson SAS Hotel Frankfurt is slated to open at the Opel roundabout near the exhibition centre in autumn 2005. The futuristic building by London-based architect John Seifert will be visible from a long distance thanks to its height of 20 floors. It has 420 rooms and suites with modern amenities and nine flexibly partitionable meeting rooms with space for up to 500 people. Alte Oper Frankfurt with its mahogany-panelled Great Hall, Mozart Hall and Hindemith Foyer is an attractive setting for congresses with up to 3,770 people and banquet events with up to 3,500 people. The same goes for Kur- und Kongre?-GmbH Bad Homburg with its convention centre in Kurhaus Bad Homburg. Its large Landgraf Friedrich Hall, which can be divided into three, and its four Poet Salons can be used flexibly for up to 1,000 people. In addition, there is a theatre with over 750 seats.

The event management of Georg Thieme Verlag KG from Stuttgart focuses on events that boost professional information and communication in the medical market and related segments. As a PCO it offers organisers the full range of services including communicative implementation through all other media of the Thieme publishing group.

Der-Congress is the congress travel department of Frankfurt-based travel operator Dertour. Since 1953 Der-Congress – with 50 years of experience- has established itself as an international full-service agency in the segments of congress travel logistics and event conception. A short while ago it added events and incentives to its offerings. GTC German Tours & Conferences GmbH from Westergellersen near Hamburg is a destination management company with staff members in five branches in Germany and further agencies in Rotterdam, Chicago and Los Angeles. It offers all services related to conferences, events and outdoor training, among other things.

Liberty International Reisen GmbH is also a specialist for incentives and congresses, outdoor management training, sports and events, hotels and transport services. Founded in Prague in 1990, its 33 affiliates in 27 countries form a world-wide tourism group. Of its three offices in Germany the team in Berlin-Mitte is in charge of organising incentives and congresses nationwide.

PR&O GmbH in Rosenheim also organises meetings, incentives and events. In its almost 20-year history it has staged events with up to 30,000 attendees in 50 different countries on four continents. Cologne-based Meta-Fusion GmbH is a service provider for Internet and multimedia applications. Specialised in Internet video (streaming media) presentations it offers companies and institutions effective media concepts for external and internal communication.
