Great Scot! easyJet announces two new ski routes

easyJet announced it is launching two new ski routes this winter, connecting Edinburgh and Glasgow with the popular ski destination of Geneva

easyJet announced it is launching two new ski routes this winter, connecting Edinburgh and Glasgow with the popular ski destination of Geneva.



On 15 December, easyJet will begin operating a daily service from Edinburgh to Geneva, whilst the weekly Saturday service from Glasgow to the gateway to the Alps will commence on 17 December. Providing Scottish skiers with the opportunity to book independent ski holidays at easyJet famous low fares and travel from their convenient local airport.



These first new routes from Glasgow since 2001 and Edinburgh since 2002, reflect the airline`s commitment to the Scottish market. The routes will be operated by a brand new Airbus 319, the 6th aircraft to be based at one of the airline`s largest European bases in Geneva.



The daily Edinburgh service is a result of investment from the Scottish Executive, in the form of the route development fund. A scheme introduced to support new direct air links which will bring economic benefit to Scotland. easyJet not only expects to give Scots new opportunities for travel for both business and leisure purposes to this great Swiss city, but also to encourage more Swiss tourists to Scotland.



Geneva is the most popular airport for skiers to access first class resorts such as; Avoriaz, Chamonix, Chatel, Les Gets, Morzine, and Courmayeur.

easyJet offers more flights to ski destination airports than any other low-cost airline, with a choice of 82 routes to 14 ski airports. The airline has revolutionised the ski market, allowing those seeking winter sports holidays the chance to create their own ski package. Following the trend of DIY summer holidays and city breaks, consumers can now book their flights, accommodation and car hire, along with transfers and activities independently online. This flexibility enables the traveller to create the break they really want a much lower prices.



easyJet Chief Executive Ray Webster commented: Thanks to the support of the Scottish Executive, easyJet is delighted to be launching a new connection between Scotland and the most popular ski destination in Europe, giving more skiers the opportunity to experience the flexibility and savings of travelling independently, with the additional convenience of flying from their local airport.

This announcement is excellent news for business and leisure travellers alike. We wish them every success as they continue to expand.



Stephen Baxter, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: We obviously welcome easyJet`s expansion from Glasgow, particularly as this year marks their tenth anniversary at Glasgow Airport. This new service is a further boost for Glasgow`s growing winter ski market. Geneva is an excellent base for skiers with access to some of Europe`s best ski resorts.
